Overview of the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Engineer specialising in TypeScript/JavaScript to join our dynamic and rapidly growing engineering team. You will play a crucial role in developing and architecting the Pelago platform, contributing to core products and services that significantly impact our members' health and well-being.

In this role you will…

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, performant, secure, and well-tested APIs using TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Implement and manage serverless services using AWS Lambda, leveraging a variety of AWS resources including EC2, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, and VPC.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of the Pelago platform by continuously advancing and optimising backend services.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate third-party services and deliver comprehensive solutions.
  • Contribute to the backend guild by enhancing our software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, security, refactorability, productivity, robustness, observability, and overall system performance.
  • Drive the adoption of AI and machine learning techniques within the backend services to enhance functionality and efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and data governance requirements, particularly in the context of a HIPAA-compliant, HITRUST-certified environment.

The background we are looking for...

  • Extensive experience building backend systems with a strong focus on TypeScript and JavaScript.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with AWS services, particularly in serverless architectures using AWS Lambda.
  • Proven track record of developing and deploying highly available, scalable, and performant backend applications in cloud-based environments.
  • Strong understanding of SQL, particularly with MySQL, and experience with other data storage solutions such as DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, and Kafka.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and functional programming styles.
  • Ability to work effectively within a mixed-discipline squad, taking ownership of backend projects and driving technical decisions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders.

It would be nice if you also had experience in…

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, AWS SAM, or Pulumi.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools to streamline deployment processes.
  • Prior experience in a startup or rapidly scaling environment.
