Under the direction of the Nurse Manager of the Medical Department, the LPN efficiently and accurately provide nursing care to outpatient mental health patients in conjunction with the mental health treatment team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop interpersonal therapeutic relationships with mental health patients and families.
- Comply with laws, rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and function calmly in situations, which require a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
- Provide prompt, efficient, and responsive service.
- Exercise appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information
- Analyze and project consequences of decisions and/or recommendations.
- Communicate medical and treatment concerns between patients and providers.
- Plans and provides nursing care for patients.
- Assesses and notes reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications.
- Arranges further medical attention when necessary.
- Assists the client in understanding the nature of mental health and accepting the need for treatment
- Documents all patient information on medical charts and follows MD’s and nurse practitioners' verbal and written orders.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation of patient treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results according to standard medical recordkeeping
- Performs administrative assignments such as maintaining patient records, answering phones, typing, and completing general notes in the computer system.
REQUIREMENTS:
- It requires an active, non-restricted licensed practical nurse license in both Pennsylvania and Virginia and a compact state license is preferred.
- 2+ years of practice in a mental health setting preferred. Pediatric nursing experience required

- Professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients.
- Social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders.
- Medical and psychological terminology.
- Medications, including psychotropic drugs, and effects on psychiatric patients.
- State of Virginia and Pennsylvania laws and regulations for the nursing profession. -Regulations pertaining to psychiatric nursing and the treatment of mental health. -Symptoms and behavior patterns of mental health.
- Medical and psychiatric emergency procedures.
- Basic computer programs
*The target range for this position is $48,000 - $54,000. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors, including licensure, experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
